José Gonzalo Rodríguez Gacha, alias "El Mexicano", was born on May 18, 1947 in Pacho, Cundinamarca ... Today he would be 74 years old
"He is Gonzalo, a loyal man who likes to eat and good things a lot", this is how Pablo Escobar introduced the Mexican, a man who continued to be, despite his power, a rustic, timid, ordinary peasant in his way of speaking, he wore a guama-haired hat, adorned with the head of a snake, fighting rooster combs, and a small good luck horseshoe. He was dressed without taste, sporting a thick chain with a Christ, a ring with an emerald and bracelet. He was of few words, clever and intelligent and was seen to be thoughtful and silent most of the time.
His houses had everything from gold faucets to toilet paper with Boticelli figures, imported from Italy.
In Pacho, his armed men roamed the streets providing security, he financed public works, awarded beauty queens and built a church. He was apathetic to social life, but he was visited by sports journalists and celebrities from television. A fan of loyalty, he too was ruthless with traitors.
In some areas he was known as the head of the Bogotá Cartel.
Gacha became an ally of Pablo to face extradition, to the point that they became compadres and shared hobbies such as soccer. He played with the stars of his team, the Millonarios club, soccer games on the field of his farm.
With the name "Reina" he identified his loads of cocaine and his brand became very popular with buyers in the US due to its high purity, unlike Pablo who sent low-purity coca because - as a good cheater - he said that consumers were vicious who didn't know very well to distinguish between "good and bad coca".
